Where, exactly, is HOME?

I moved across the country, from Oregon to Massachusetts, to marry my husband. I didn't choose the location, I chose HIM. Fortunately I like my little town very much. I'm very active in town and church, and have made wonderful friends. I've lived here 15 years.

Fifteen years, yet I still call Oregon home. My parents, sister and her family, aunts & uncles, cousins, all are in Oregon. If I lived there I probably wouldn't see most of the extended family that often, but I sure miss not being able to get together with them all.

The thing is, living in Massachustts, I call Oregon home. When I'm in Oregon, I refer to Massachusetts as home. This polarity drives me a little nutty sometimes. I feel a constant pull to Oregon; yet I have roots here, too.

In my own perfect world, Massachusetts would be about where Idaho is. Close enough I could still drive home for family gatherings and visits.

I'd be interested to know if anyone else experiences this mixed bag of emotions about HOME. Maybe it's a KathyLikesPink phenomenon.

Home is where the heart is. I mean, if you don't feel it, than you sound like you have two home really, visit Oregon more often or get that video phone thingy. We are contemplating a big move (very hush hush though) so we are thinking about this from all angles. Tough decision.

Kathy, I know just what you mean. I am originally from California, moved to Vancouver as a teenager, then to Victoria as an adult, then to California for 5 years, and now I'm back in Vancouver. When I first moved here, "home" was California. When I moved to California, "home" was Victoria. Now "home" is Victoria or California.

I've learned that if I spend all my time looking over my shoulder at where I've come from, I'm not happy where I am. So now, wherever I live, I try to take advantages of the opportunities that place presents and accept my nostalgia for my other homes as a blessing. I count myself lucky to have three beautiful homes.

I do wish, though, that more of the people who are so important to me lived closer.

Personally.. I think it would be okay to move Mass. to Idaho (or as we call it Heidi-Ho) Cuz then you'd live close to me.. whether I'm here in WA or when we retire, we'll be in Wyo~!!! Which is home to me.. but so is Utah, cuz that's where my Momma lives.. and Missouri is home to my Hubs. Here's my favorite saying.. Home is where we keep our stuff!

Because California is so big I often refer to Southern Cal as home instead of Northern Cal where I live but I've decided home is where my kids are and that's with me!

Maybe Massachusetts can cut a deal with Idaho -- lease with an option to buy? Summer there? :)

Absolutely! My family is in Massachusetts! I miss my SisterDears like crazy. I moved to Florida in 1975, and moved to Georgia in 2006. I'm a little further north, but I can't do snow anymore! Hahaha.

I live in Jamaica. I spent last weekend in a quaint cute West MA town. I loved it then but I was there earlier in Feb and it was beautiful but man it was cold.
