Pardon me, Ma'am, your age is showing

I talk when I drive. To myself. To the air. To the world in general. I realize I'm setting a bad example for my teenager, as most of what is spoken is criticism of other drivers.

"Come on, it's the pedal on the RIGHT, buddy!"

"Jeez, make the turn already, you had plenty of time!"

"Oh my GAWD, could you possible go any slower?!?"

I'm not proud of this - yet the words slip from my mouth before my brain is fully engaged.

When did I become the cranky old lady driver? Granted, the big FIVE-OH is close enough on the horizon I can see it from here. The crest of THE HILL, so to speak. Even so, I don't necessarily think of myself as OLD.

Recently I saw a bumper sticker:

It was. So I must be.

Today as I was driving out of the post office, I came to a stop before pulling out. I was well within the post office driveway. I came to a full stop. I looked left, then right. Coming from my right was an elderly gentleman about to turn into the post office driveway.

I'm guessing my blunder was stopping too close to the edge of the road than he would have liked. He had a scowl on his face and a fist clenched on the steering wheel. I fully expected to see the puff of a thought bubble over his head with the words "Damn you kids and your crazy driving!"

It made me feel about 17 years old.

And I have to admit, it felt pretty good.

This post is merely an observation on age, and not encouragement to get out there and drive like a reckless kid!

Oh it's scary when all these things start happening.

Oh yeah...those things are happening to me more often now, too. I complain to my son that I can hear his car radio before I ever see him pulling into the lot. He just laughs it off.

I'll be shouting to him when he's in his 30s, I'm sure.

But then again, I went to Who concerts when I was young. Yeah, I have a little hearing loss to show for it but boy was it fun!

Peace - D

Oh me too - too many concerts when I was young. I am paying for it now with a limited hearing range. I warn my daughter about it - I'm sure iPod earbuds are ruining the hearing of THIS generation.

When my husband go to restaurants with the music too loud (which happens often), I realize we're getting old.

I love your disclaimer at the bottom; that made me laugh!

I am starting to notice a dip in my driving skills. It concerns me. Of course, the big 4-0 is coming up in a few months for me, so I feel like it's MY age, too.

Maybe I should take a refresher in Driver's Ed?

This post--too funny--too familiar.

My kids had their station on the car radio today and I said, "Good Lord, who is singing this and what is it?" in a not good curious way. I then had a flashback to my mother saying the very same thing a 'few years' ago to me.UGH

This is hilarious. I can totally relate to everything you said, especially talking when I drive. Recently my daughter asked me why I call everyone "buddy" or "grandma" when I'm driving. I had no idea I did that. I guess it's better than what I COULD have been saying, though.

I have to laugh about your loud music sign. My boys (14 & 13) do NOT like loud music. My husband & I DO (we're a little ways from that five-oh crest, but not too far). Although hubby goes louder than I do.

We went to a concert a couple of months ago and it was SUPER LOUD. Our kids would've hated it. How silly is that?!?!

I did tell them that they didn't need to feel bad, because ultimately, they were protecting their ears and hearing by NOT listening the way we used to and sometimes still do. Ha! Ha! :D

Who'd have thought?!?!?!

Yes I have seen that one on cars here in Tassie, I also saw an elderly man's response sticker that said:

"I'd rather be an old fart than a young D**khead"

My daughters scold me when I get too vocal:

"Mama, that's not nice."

"Mama, we don't SAY 'stupid,' remember?"

"Mama, what does that word mean?"

pretty funny! I do the same thing, but the worst is when your children begin to drive and they do it too. Where did they learn to be such rude drivers? :=) I even got flipped off by an old guy last week. it was in Eugene so let's call him an old hippie!

Michelle just got her license April 2 - now if she can find her away around town, we'll even be able to have her drive the car! She got lost last Friday and ended up calling me from a car lot! She doesn't have a cell phone yet, which seemed to be a call to action to us to get her one. she was all weepy and the car salesmen had taken her in, given her pop and parked her in front of a tv like she was 5 years old! julie
