Small dilemma...

I've just found out that my carpenter friend, who did such a beautiful job on The Hubs room for his dialysis, is free to start work on my bathroom/bedroom/ laundry area at the end of next week.

I knew he and his wife would be vacationing the first week in August. Now I've just learned that they have added more vacation time and an Alaskan cruise to the original chunk of time.

They're retired and great friends of mine and I don't begrudge them their vacation at all.

But I'm wondering, should I go ahead and have him come for the next two weeks, knock out all the old plaster? He would then go on vacation for 3-4 weeks. Or should I just have him wait and start the whole mess towards the end of August?

The Hubs, Darling Daughter and I will be on vacation for 2 weeks ourselves.

I'm itching to get this project started but not sure about living with all the dust for such a prolonged period of time. Any thoughts?

i would hold off til after all vacations are done. no way could i handle having a bathroom AND laundry room out of commission for any amount of time.

you've lived with your house for this many years, what's another few weeks? ;) hope the construction goes well, whenever you decide to start it! :)

where is vacationland for you?

Yup, just wait. Or hire someone else. But since he is a friend, I bet you will just wait.

This is honestly a tough one - my husband is a general contractor in our other life.

And if he can't get started on it right away, chances are he will find another job he can do during that time, which might delay your job even longer . . .

So it's your call, of course!

If you are his first job when he gets back, then just wait. It's like pulling a bandaid off fast if you do the work all at once!

WAIT! That way you won't have to endure all the mess for a longer period of time.
